At higher levels, your value increasingly comes from your judgement, perspective, influence and ability to develop people—not just from your personal contribution.

From Doing to Enabling
As a high performer, you are often rewarded for solving problems yourself.
As a leader, solving every problem yourself can become a limitation.

“How can I solve this?”

Why Can Leadership Feel Harder at the Next Level?
Leadership becomes more complex as responsibility increases.
You may need to balance business expectations with people challenges, manage uncertainty, make difficult decisions and have conversations you would rather avoid.
Sometimes, the challenge is not knowing **what **to do.
The challenge is knowing **how **to do it effectively.
Should you give direct feedback or give the person more time?
Should you make the decision yourself or involve the team?
Are you solving a problem your team should be learning to solve?
Are you avoiding a difficult conversation because it feels uncomfortable?
These situations require judgement, self-awareness and reflection.
Experience helps, but experience alone does not automatically develop these capabilities.
How Can You Prepare for Your Next Leadership Move?
You do not have to wait for a bigger title to start preparing for bigger responsibility.
You can:

One of the lessons I have learned through corporate leadership and mentoring is that experienced professionals do not always need more answers.
Sometimes, they need better questions.
When you are deeply involved in a situation, it can be difficult to step back and see your own assumptions, patterns and blind spots.
A thinking partnership can create that space.
It is not about someone giving you all the answers.
It is about helping you think more clearly, challenge assumptions, gain perspective, make informed decisions and turn awareness into purposeful action.
Leadership growth often begins when you examine not only what you are doing, but also how you are thinking and behaving.
Your Experience Still Matters
Years of experience are not a disadvantage.
They are one of your greatest assets.
But experience becomes truly powerful when you turn it into judgement, perspective, influence and leadership impact.
The next level of leadership is not simply a reward for staying longer in your career.
It is a new level of responsibility that requires you to grow with the role.
So perhaps the better question is not:
“Do I have enough experience for the next level?”
It is:
“Am I ready to create value differently at the next level?”
