The "who's right" problem
You paste a disagreement into a chatbot. The response follows a predictable shape: both sides have valid points, communication is key, consider talking it out. It reads well. It changes nothing.
The issue is structural. A general-purpose AI optimizes for helpfulness across millions of topics. It has no conflict-specific pipeline, no framework selection logic, no way to score tension or separate positions from interests. It gives you prose where you need a verdict.
What a framework-based pipeline does differently
Verdict Buddy runs each conflict through a sequence that mirrors how trained mediators actually work:
Classify the conflict pattern. Is this a pursuer-withdrawer dynamic (Gottman)? An unmet attachment need (EFT)? A values collision that negotiation theory handles better? The classification step determines which framework drives the analysis.
Apply the framework. Gottman's Four Horsemen model checks for contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. EFT looks at the emotional cycle underneath the surface complaint. NVC separates observations from evaluations. Each framework has a specific lens, and a generic chatbot uses none of them.
Score and structure the output. The report includes a tension score, both perspectives restated without the original charge, and 3 to 5 concrete next steps. Not "communicate better." Specific actions tied to the pattern that was identified.
The whole thing runs in under five minutes. Solo, with a partner, or in a group.

Why this matters for real conflicts
The Gottman Institute's research puts the number at 69%: that is the share of relationship conflicts that are perpetual. They don't resolve; they recur. A response that says "both of you have a point" doesn't help with a pattern you'll face again next month.
Workplace conflicts carry measurable cost too. CPP Global's data shows $359 billion in annual productivity losses from conflict in the US alone. SHRM reports 85% of employees deal with it, spending an average 2.8 hours per week.
These aren't problems that need more eloquent advice. They need pattern recognition and structured intervention, which is what psychology frameworks were designed for.
What we learned building it
We picked four frameworks because they cover different conflict mechanics. Gottman handles communication patterns in close relationships. EFT works at the attachment level. NVC is useful across contexts because it operates on the observation-feeling-need-request chain. Harvard Negotiation Project methods apply when the conflict is about interests rather than emotions.
The combination means the tool can route a roommate dispute about dishes through a different lens than a couple arguing about how to spend weekends. A generic chatbot treats both identically.
We also learned that people want a verdict, not a therapy session. The most common feedback is some version of "finally, someone just told me what's going on." That is what a structured pipeline delivers and a balanced paragraph does not.
