Like many of you, I spend most of my day in deep work—writing code, debugging, and managing project docs. But I ran into a constant point of friction: context switching.
Every time I needed to quickly jot down an idea, check a task, or start a focus timer, I had to minimize my editor, swap windows, or open a heavy, bloated electron app. That tiny 5-second distraction was constantly breaking my workflow.
So I decided to build my own solution: Optimal Desktop.
🛠️ What it is
Optimal Desktop is a native, ultra-lightweight workspace overlay for macOS.
With one simple shortcut (Option + Shift + Spacebar), a clean HUD layer pops up instantly over whatever application you are working in. You can capture notes, check your calendar, track tasks, or run a Pomodoro timer without losing your place. Press the shortcut again, and it drops back into the background.
