How to test a battery, step by step

- Hold the battery in contact for a second and read the needle on the scale.
- Note the zone the needle lands in, then remove the battery.
How to read the result
- Green or GOOD zone: the battery is healthy, put it back in service.
- Yellow or LOW zone: usable for low-drain devices like clocks or remotes, but on its way out.
- Red or REPLACE zone: the battery is spent, recycle it.
One tip: test under the type that matches the battery, since a 9V and a 1.5V cell use different parts of the scale.

Does the BT-168 need its own battery? No. It draws a tiny amount of power from the battery being tested, so there is nothing to charge or replace.
Can it test lithium coin cells like CR2032? It is designed for 1.5V button cells. A 3V coin cell reads differently, so treat the result as a rough guide rather than an exact figure for those.
Can it test rechargeable AA and AAA? Yes, though NiMH rechargeables rest at about 1.2V, so a healthy rechargeable reads a little lower than a fresh alkaline. Judge it against that lower baseline.
