I started a dev channel eighteen months ago. Screencasts, mostly — debugging sessions, "here's how this actually works under the hood", the occasional rant about a framework.
The videos were fine. The problem was that each one cost me an entire Saturday, and about ninety minutes of that Saturday was spent staring at an empty document trying to work out what order to explain things in.

The caveat is the whole reason I'm writing this, so let's get to it.
The thing that nearly got me
Third video of the month. I was making something about async iteration, generated a first draft, skimmed it, and started recording.
Halfway through I said a sentence out loud that described a method that does not exist.
Not a deprecated method. Not something from a different library. A confidently-worded, plausible-sounding, entirely fictional API. It was sitting in the draft looking exactly like every true sentence around it.
I caught it because I happened to know that area well. If it had been about a library I'd only read the docs for that week, I'd have shipped it.
This is the part that no review I read mentioned, and it is by far the most important thing for our audience specifically.
Marketing copy fails gently. If a generated sentence about "growing your brand" is a bit vague, nobody dies. Technical content fails hard. A wrong method name in a tutorial is a comment section full of people telling you you're wrong, and it's permanent, because you said it out loud on camera.
So fact-checking gets longer, not shorter
Here's the bit that surprised me most, and it's the opposite of what these tools promise.
When I write a script myself, it only contains things I already know. There's nothing to verify, because I couldn't have written it otherwise.
When I generate a script, it contains things that sound like things I know. Every single technical claim now needs checking against real docs.
My actual timings for the month:

Still a real saving. But look at that fact-checking row — it went up five times. If you skip it because the draft feels finished, you will publish something wrong.
What it's genuinely good at
I want to be fair, because there's a real product here.
Structure. This is the thing I actually wanted and didn't know I wanted. Deciding what order to explain concepts in is genuinely hard — it's a dependency graph problem, and it's the part that had me staring at a blank document for ninety minutes.
Ask it for an outline and you get a plausible ordering in about ten seconds. Not always the right one. But having something to react to beats having nothing to react to, every single time.
Volume. If you plan a quarter of content in one sitting, the unlimited generation genuinely matters. I did a planning session where I outlined fourteen videos back to back. On a credit-metered tool I'd have hit a wall about halfway.

Use the outline feature. Be extremely careful with the prose.
The workflow that ended up working for me:
- Generate three outlines, bullets only — explicitly ask for bullets, or you'll get prose and start editing instead of writing
- Reorder them myself, because dependency order is something I know and it doesn't
- Write the opening thirty seconds by hand, always
- Speak the body from bullets rather than reading a script
- Highlight every method name, version number and claim, and check each one
Step 5 is non-negotiable for technical content. Budget the 25 minutes.
That workflow is genuinely faster than my Saturday-afternoon-blank-document approach, and the videos sound like me rather than like a product page.
Should you actually pay for it?

The most useful thing this month taught me had nothing to do with the tool.
It's that the ninety minutes I was losing wasn't writing. It was deciding. And deciding what order to explain things in is exactly the kind of problem where having any starting point — even a mediocre one — unblocks you immediately.
You could get that from a tool. You could also get it from a rubber duck, or from writing the video's title first and letting it constrain everything else.
