I had a content-research problem that looked easy at first.
Our local Reddit corpus contained 310 jewelry-related threads and 9,575 stored comments. There were discussions about certificates, fake stones, authorized sellers, repairs, sizing, returns, overseas purchases, price and buyer's remorse.
That sounds like a ready-made editorial calendar.
It is not.
The corpus is a convenience sample of public discussions. It is not representative of jewelry buyers, and it is definitely not a survey of Chinese luxury consumers. Counting every mention of “authenticity” and calling it market demand would produce a confident chart and a weak decision.
What I needed was a way to use the material without asking it to prove something it could not prove.
The useful answer was to stop treating comments as conclusions and start treating them as tests.
From discussion themes to acceptance tests
A community post can reveal the wording of a hesitation:
- Is the lower-priced seller legitimate?
- What does this certificate actually prove?
- Will the brand resize or repair an item bought elsewhere?
- Who is responsible if an overseas purchase goes wrong?
- Is a marketplace store official, authorized, or simply active?
Those are good inputs for a landing-page review. They are not evidence that one issue is more common in China than another.
So I converted each recurring hesitation into an acceptance test for a China-facing luxury-jewelry page.
The basic data shape is deliberately boring:

The important field is not the score. It is required_fact_owner.
If the page cannot answer a repair question because the policy has not been agreed internally, that is not a copywriting failure. If the policy exists but is buried in a PDF, that is a findability failure. If the page links to a boutique locator that returns an error, that is a route failure.
One “content quality” percentage would hide all three.
The failure taxonomy
I now use six outcomes when reviewing a page:

There is also UNRESOLVED, because “I could not verify this” is not the same as “this is false.”
That distinction matters for official-channel claims. Domain ownership, site operation, legal-entity registration, marketplace presence and brand authorization are related, but they are not interchangeable.
A real company can run a real website and still not be the brand's authorized seller. A brand can own a domain and leave it unused. An authorized retailer can be official for a territory or product without being brand-owned. A platform badge belongs to the platform's system; it does not replace the maison's own confirmation.
If the page simply says “official channel,” the reviewer should ask: official in what sense, for which market, for which products, and on what date?
A truth table comes before the draft
The most useful artifact was not an outline. It was a small table of facts the content would depend on.

Every value needs an owner and a review date in the real record. The example above is only a shape.
This prevents a common workflow error: asking a writer to make uncertain operations sound certain. “Global warranty” is not improved by better prose if eligibility changes by item, purchase route, modification or market. The page should explain the conditions and route the buyer to an assessment.
Why I did not start from keywords
Search data still matters. Our own Google Search Console snapshot showed impressions rising while clicks remained scarce. That is evidence about Visibility Atlas, not jewelry buyers, but it changed the editorial question I asked.
Instead of “What can we publish that might get impressions?” I asked, “If a cautious buyer does arrive, what can they finish on the page?”
The answer was a task cluster rather than one repeated keyword:

One useful page can address that cluster naturally if it has the underlying facts. It should not repeat “luxury jewelry China” in every heading. It should name the brand, market, route, service and next action in the places where a human expects them.
The technical requirements are ordinary:
- one stable, self-canonical URL;
- crawlable internal links from a collection, service or boutique hub;
- important facts rendered as text;
- a title and H1 that match the buyer task;
- structured data only for facts visible on the page;
- working mobile routes to the boutique directory, service contact and appointment flow.
The hard part is not the markup. It is deciding which facts the business is willing and able to maintain.
Do not merge the measurements afterward
There is another trap after the page ships.
Search Console can report queries, impressions, clicks and average position. Analytics can record consented visits and tagged actions. A CRM can record an appointment request or qualified enquiry. A manual AI check can record whether a declared surface named the right official route.
Those events belong to one customer journey, but they do not share one denominator.
I keep them separate:

An increase in impressions is not proof that trust improved. A boutique-directory click is not a sale. A lead is not proof that an AI answer caused the visit. An AI mention is not a citation, and a citation is not a recommendation.
The point of the page is to make the journey inspectable, not to invent a single score for it.
The 15-minute review
The final test needs no model and no dashboard.
Give the page to someone who did not write it and ask them to answer, without opening another tab:
- Is this page for mainland China?
- What is the approved Chinese brand or collection name?
- Where can I buy through a route the brand confirms?
- How do I verify a boutique, retailer or account?
- What does the product documentation prove?
- Can an overseas purchase be serviced locally?
- What conditions affect repair or resizing?
- Who is responsible if something goes wrong?
- What can I do if I am interested but not ready to book?
For every unanswered question, record the failure type and owner. Do not immediately add a paragraph.
That last rule saved the exercise for me. Some gaps need copy. Some need a better internal link. Some need customer service to make a decision. Some need legal or brand protection to confirm a relationship. A few should remain explicitly unresolved.
Community research is valuable because people describe the part of the journey that official pages often skip. Its job is to improve the test set, not to manufacture a market statistic.
That is how I would use 9,575 comments: not as 9,575 votes, but as raw material for questions a high-value page should be able to answer.
