How to Create a new app in AppGallery Connect

Context

This document outlines the initial configuration steps required to set up a new application within the Huawei AppGallery Connect (AGC) console. It specifically addresses the workflow for HarmonyOS applications, covering the creation of a project, the registration of App IDs, and the configuration of capabilities to prepare the app for development and distribution.

Description

Before a HarmonyOS application can utilize Huawei Kits (services) or be released to the AppGallery, it must be defined within the AGC console. This process involves creating a "Project" container, registering the specific application identity (App ID and Package Name), and linking them together. This guide details the end-to-step process from logging in to finalizing the application's association with the project and enabling necessary services.

Solution / Approach

Follow the steps below to create and configure your new app in AppGallery Connect:

1. Access the Console: Navigate to the AppGallery Connect website. Click "Sign in" in the top right corner. If you do not have an account, create a new Huawei Developer account to proceed.

2. Navigate to Development: Once logged in, click on the "Development and services" tab in the main menu.

3. Create a Project: Locate and click the "Add Project" button. Enter a suitable name for your project in the prompt and confirm to create it.

4. Access Certificates and Profiles: On your new project's overview page, look for the navigation bar or visual menu at the top and click on "Certificates, App IDs and Profiles".

5. Register App Information: In this section, you must register the details of your HarmonyOS application:

   • Enter the App Name (as created in your local development environment).
   • Enter the Package Name exactly as it appears in your project files.

6. Link to Project: Finalize the entry to associate (link) this specific App ID/Package Name with the Project you created in Step 3.

7. Add Capabilities: Select and add the specific Capabilities (services) your application requires (e.g., Push Kit, Map Kit).

8. Completion: Your application is now successfully linked to the project and ready for further configuration (such as generating signing certificates or profile management)

Key Takeaways

• Package Name Accuracy: Ensure the Package Name entered in the console matches the bundleName or defined in your local HarmonyOS project app.json5 exactly.
• Project-Based Management: In AppGallery Connect, services and settings are often managed at the "Project" level, which can contain multiple apps (e.g., different versions or device types).
• Capabilities: Only enable the capabilities your app actually needs to keep the configuration clean and manage permissions effectively.
• Prerequisites: This step is a mandatory prerequisite before you can generate debug certificates or provision profiles for device testing.
