- The top videos are old, broad, Shorts-only, or from one dominant channel.
- A small creator somewhere is already getting breakout views on it.
- Comments ask questions the existing videos do not answer.

How to test a niche before you record
- Search the specific combination — not "horror games," but "horror fishing games like Dredge." Read the shelf.
- Check who owns it — one giant channel owning 80% of views is a wall. A mix of weak, stale uploads is a door.
- Look for outliers — a small channel outperforming its baseline proves demand the big channels have not served.

- Judging the game, not the query. "Minecraft is saturated" is true; "Minecraft without the word 'modpack' in the title, beginner settings on Steam Deck" may not be. Saturation lives at the query level.
- Counting videos instead of reading them. A shelf full of old uploads, Shorts, and livestream VODs is not the same wall as a shelf of recent, well-made long-form guides. Quality of supply matters more than count.
- Mistaking a giant channel for a closed door. One dominant creator is beatable if their videos are broad and yours are narrow. A mix of strong, recent uploads from several big channels is the real wall.
- Giving up after one search. Supply moves daily. A shelf that looked closed last month can reopen when a patch lands or the giants move on to the next launch.

Before recording, answer these in order. A "no" at any step is a reason to narrow further or skip:
