Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are increasingly becoming prime targets for cybercriminals, facing both mass attacks and sophisticated campaigns. A Kaspersky report highlights that these businesses often lack the robust security measures and resources to defend against evolving threats.
Key findings from Kaspersky's 2026 threat analysis for SMBs reveal a significant surge in attacks disguised as popular AI tools, with detections nearly five times higher than the previous year. Fake communication and office software also remain prevalent lures. The report underscores that initial accesses to corporate infrastructures sold on the dark web often pertain to SMBs, making them vulnerable and a potential gateway for attacks on larger enterprises.
The analysis also points to an increase in posts on the dark web offering initial access to companies in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Kaspersky advises SMBs to strengthen their cybersecurity posture through comprehensive solutions, employee awareness training, and proactive threat monitoring to mitigate these risks.
