As of 2026, it is a common perception that AI needs huge cloud servers to work. But is this really the truth? Not really, because this is where MediaTek Genio and its powered Edge AI Devices come in.
MediaTek Genio is making things happen by enabling artificial Intelligence right on your devices locally. This is a really big change in the field of AI.
What Is Edge AI Computing
If we talk about Edge AI Devices, it means running AI right on your device instead of going to the cloud. This means you will get faster results because there's no data travel time. Additionally, your personal data stays safe and private since it never leaves your device.
Another benefit? You save money on internet bandwidth. And your device works better because it learns from your specific environment.
Think about cool things like translating languages instantly while talking, AI that makes your games look better, video calls that automatically fix lighting and sound, or smart assistants that work without Internet.
These are the things that Edge AI devices are capable of doing every day.
MediaTek Genio: A Family of Chips for Every Need
Recognising that no single processor can meet every technological demand, MediaTek diversified its portfolio into distinct chipset families. Each of these processors is engineered for specific application segments, including smartphones, smart TVs, internet of things IoT, and computing.
First up is Genio Pro 5100, which is the most powerful chip in the family. It is built on a 3nm technology, which provides efficiency. This chip can do over 53 trillion AI operations per second.
Genio Pro 5100 supports up to 7B-parameter LLMs at 23 tokens/sec. Additionally, you can also connect up to 16 cameras to it and show images on three 4K screens at the same time. It is used for internet of things IoT and embedded applications, like autonomous mobile robots, drones, edge AI devices, transportation, and logistics platforms.
For the mid-range, there are MediaTek Genio 720 and Genio 520, which are perfect for generative AI. These chips are built on a 6nm process for performing well without wasting power.
Other than that, they have a 10 TOPS AI processor that handles advanced AI models really well. You have the liberty to add up to 16GB of fast memory, which allows these chips to run popular AI models like Google Gemini.
The Genio 720 processor has 2x A78 cores, which can run up to 2.6 GHz. Meanwhile, the Genio 520 has 2x A78 cores running at 2.0~2.2 GHz for a power-efficient experience.
In terms of camera, Genio 720 supports single 5K@60 fps or dual 2.5K@60 fps and 32MP single camera. On the other hand, Genio 520 supports 4K60 video output and FHD cameras.
For devices that need AI at an affordable price, there is MediaTek Genio 360. It is built on a 6nm process, too. However, it comes with only 6 cores. It has a 5.1 TOPS AI processor.
This is the first time real generative AI has reached affordable devices. It supports 4K displays and comes with 8GB of memory.
Edge AI Development Tools
The reason why Genio is preferred by the developers is that MediaTek gives you ready-to-use designs that can help in saving months of work. These chipsets work with popular edge AI development tools like PyTorch and ONNX for Model-to-Edge deployment, easing pre-deployment optimization.
You can use operating systems like Android, Linux, Ubuntu, or Debian, depending on the chipset. Moreover, your devices can work for over 10 years thanks to MediaTek's guaranteed supply commitment.
MediaTek Genio processors are already being used in products you might have used in daily life but might not have noticed. For example, smart stores have displays that follow user behaviour.
For smart homes, Genio-powered assistants listen to your voice commands without needing any internet access.
The Bottom Line
The primary reason that makes MediaTek Genio so special is that it proves that edge AI technology has the ability to perform efficient computing without wasting any power. It is the very platform where real generative AI works and handles several things simultaneously, right on your gadget.
This internet of things IoT platform can power a basic smart gadget or a complicated robot that you wish to design. For all, the MediaTek Genio platform supports features related to AI computing, networking, and display capabilities.
The edge AI revolution is happening right now, and MediaTek Genio is pushing it forward more than anyone else. This internet of things IoT Platform is the future of AI, and it's finally here for everyone.
FAQs
- What makes Genio good for Edge AI Devices?
Genio has powerful AI processors (NPU) that work directly on the device, giving fast responses without needing cloud servers. This makes Edge AI Devices more efficient and secure.
- What is a low‑power edge AI processor?
A low‑power edge AI processor is a chip that runs AI tasks while using comparatively lower power than other chipsets. Genio 520 is built this way, making it ideal for battery-powered IoT devices that need to work for long hours.
- What is Edge AI Computing?
Edge AI Computing means running AI on the device itself instead of sending data to cloud servers. It gives faster results, saves bandwidth, and keeps data private.
