Achieving good results in examinations is extremely important for us because most people evaluate a student based on academic performance. Undoubtedly, success in examinations largely depends on hard work and perseverance. However, alongside studying, there are certain practices that can help students perform better in exams. I have briefly highlighted some of them below:
- Be Confident
Enter the examination hall with confidence and a positive mindset: “In shā’ Allāh, I can do it.” If we enter feeling anxious and fearful, there is a greater chance of forgetting much of what we have studied.
- Increase Good Deeds
Perform more righteous deeds such as prayer, charity, and other acts of goodness. However, the intention should not be merely to achieve success in examinations, but rather to seek the pleasure of Allah.
- Seek Du‘ā from Others
Before the examination, seek the prayers of your parents, teachers, close relatives, and righteous neighbors. Allah accepts the supplications of the believers.
- Know the Examination Rules
Before entering the examination hall, make sure you have a clear understanding of the examination procedures and regulations, such as your seat arrangement, question paper format, and other important instructions.
- Pray and Put Your Trust in Allah
If you are a Muslim, perform two rak‘ahs of Ṣalāt al-Ḥājah (the Prayer of Need) before leaving for the examination. It can be very beneficial. Most importantly, place your complete trust in Allah, for whatever He decrees is ultimately for the best.
- Begin with the Name of Allah
Upon receiving the answer script and question paper, say “Bismillāh” (In the Name of Allah). Read and understand the questions carefully before you begin writing. Manage your time wisely and ensure that you start and finish appropriately within the allotted time.
- Avoid Any Dishonest Means
Refrain from all forms of cheating and dishonest practices.
- Recite the Du‘ās Mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah
There are many beneficial supplications. A few examples are given below:
👉 اللَّهُمَّ حَاسِبْنِي حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا
Meaning: “O Allah, make my reckoning easy.”
👉 رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا
Meaning: “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (Qur’an 20:114)
👉 Recite Durūd Ibrāhīm (Ṣalawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ).
There are many other beautiful supplications that may also be recited.
