React Native Scanner Pro — a modern scanner library for React Native 📷

A while back, I was working on a React Native project that needed scanning functionality.
At first, I thought this would be one of those features that takes a day — install a package, follow the docs, and done.

But it turned into weeks of R&D.

Most scanner solutions worked for basic cases, but when I started implementing real requirements, I kept facing problems. But our requirements were a little more specific.

I needed things like:

• accurate bounding box detection
• The ability to scan only inside a restricted scan area
• prevent detections outside the target region
• predictable results across different devices
• enough flexibility to customize the scanner experience

That’s where things became difficult.

Some solutions detected outside the expected area.

Some didn’t give enough control over scanner behavior.

Some worked well until edge cases started appearing.

And in some cases, fixing one issue created another.

So instead of trying to patch things endlessly, I started doing proper R&D.

I tested multiple approaches, compared implementations, changed detection logic, adjusted how scan regions behave, and kept experimenting until the experience felt stable enough for production use.

If I'm solving these problems anyway, why not package it properly so other React Native developers don’t have to repeat the same journey?

That’s how react-native-scanner-pro started.

The goal was to make scanner integration simpler while giving developers better control over things like detection areas and scanner behavior.

One thing I learned during this process:

Scanner features look simple from the outside, but getting them to behave consistently in real applications takes much more work than expected.
