A full fidelity migration must preserve:
- Work item history and all revisions
- Attachments, comments, and inline mentions
- Parent-child relationships and cross-project links

Repositories
Teams migrating from Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC) to Git need to account for more than a file copy. Repository structure, branch policies, and history handling all require deliberate planning. Large repositories and binary files also need attention before migration begins.
Pipelines

- All link types between work items, commits, and builds
- Commit-to-work-item associations
- Attachments and metadata at the item level
- Historical test results tied to specific builds and releases
If this data is not preserved, teams lose the ability to trace a change from requirement to code to deployment. That loss compounds over time.
Run migration in iterations, not as a single event
Migrations that are treated as a one-time, all-at-once cutover carry the highest risk. Iterative migration gives teams the ability to catch and correct problems before they affect the live environment.

- Validate data fidelity against the source before declaring it complete
